Profondément moderne dans son approche du thriller, Leonard Rosen ancre son récit dans les désordres et mutations de notre époque, où le libéralisme a ouvert la porte à une mondialisation du crime, dont le visage s'est complètement transformé. Inscrit au cœur même de l'actualité, son récit, peuplé de personnages inoubliables, un économiste péruvien aux sympathies d'extrême gauche, un dirigeant de fond de placement, un tueur des balkans, et, en premier lieu, le commissaire Poincaré, est aussi un plaidoyer violent pour la nature humaine, fondamentalement irréductible à tous les modèles mathématiques, statistiques ou économiques dans lesquels on tente en permanence de l'enfermer. C'est surtout un magnifique roman d'intrigue et de suspense, d'une rare intelligence.
