The Death of a Gold Town by Charles E. Miller Summary

Editor Fitzroy of the small-town newspaper Mine and Mill is dismayed to see the vitality and pioneer strength of his small town fade before the forces of violence, inexplicable deaths, corruption by bribery and acts of vengeance amongst the ordinary citizens of Fiddletown. he decides to log, to chart, as it were, in his paper and his diary the dismal decay of the early California gold town. He sometimes uses his poetic pen to capture the sad events, the inexplicable failures of ordinary people to show civility and compassion. "Gold! fear was not of tomorrow but of an irrecoverable sacrifice of home, honor and charity in the name of gold-a sacrifice and corruption of the conscience like mephisto the gold miners had traded their souls for the golden metal. That fear lingered beneath outward forms of pleasure and happiness, like a waiting spirit of death."

Dreaming While Awake by Arnold Mindell Summary

What if you could dream 24 hours a day, even while awake? According to innovative psychotherapist Arnold Mindell, Ph.D., we already do. The seeds of dreaming arise in every moment of the day, in body symptoms, problems, relationships, subtile feelings, interactions, random thoughts, and fantasies. We're getting countless little cues from the unconscious every minute. All are signs from the world of dreaming. And, according to Mindell, we can be in this state of lucid dreaming all day long. In Dreaming While Awake, Mindell shows how to become aware of these "flirts" from the dreamworld and how to interpret their message. The goal, he says, is to be wide awake and lucid 24 hours a day in the midst of this unending dreamfield of information. Practicing 24-hour lucid dreaming:Helps you solve personal, physical, and emotional problemsServes as a preventive medicine for relationships and health, helping you catch the earliest warning signs before they turn into problemsHelps resolve conflicts in relationships, families, large groups, corporations, even politics Dreaming is the mystical source of reality, says Mindell. "My goal is to make the Dreaming roots of reality so accessible, so visceral, that your conscious mind will give you back your right to dream."

An Interpretive Guide to Operatic Arias by Martial Singher Summary

A premier singer and master teacher here tells other singers how to get the most from 151 famous arias selected for their popularity or their greatness from 66 operas, ranging in time and style from Christopher Gluck to Carlisle Floyd, from Mozart to Menotti. “The most memorable thrills in an opera singer's life,” according to the author's Introduction, “may easily derive from the great arias in his or her repertoire.” This book continues the work Martial Singher has done, in performances, in concerts, and in master classes and lessons, by drawing attention “not only to precise features of text, notes, and markings but also to psychological motivations and emotional impulses, to laughter and tears, to technical skills, to strokes of genius, and even here and there to variations from the original works that have proved to be fortunate.” For each aria, the author gives the dramatic and musical context, advice about interpretation, and the lyric—with the original language (if it is not English) and an idiomatic American English translation, in parallel columns. The major operatic traditions—French, German, Italian, Russian, and American—are represented, as are the major voice types—soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone, bass-baritone, and bass. The dramatic context is not a mere summary of the plot but is a penetrating and often witty personality sketch of an operatic character in the midst of a situation. The musical context is presented with the dramatic situation in a cleverly integrated way. Suggestions about interpretation, often illustrated with musical notation and phonetic symbols, are interspersed among the author's explication of the music and the action. An overview of Martial Singher’s approach—based on fifty years of experience on stage in a hundred roles and in class at four leading conservatories—is presented in his Introduction. As the reader approaches each opera discussed in this book, he or she experiences the feeling of participation in a rehearsal on stage under an urbane though demanding coach and director. The Interpretive Guide will be of value to professional singers as a source of reference or renewed inspiration and a memory refresher, to coaches for checking and broadening personal impressions, to young singers and students for learning, to teachers who have enjoyed less than a half century of experience, and to opera broadcast listeners and telecast viewers who want to understand what goes into the sounds and sights that delight them.

Love Letters to God by Summary

Love Letters is a collection of soul-born poetry that is an expression of the writer’s daily walk with the love of her life—Jesus Christ. The book renders responses to spiritual and emotional struggles and triumphs, prayers and miraculous answers, along with times of supposed distance from God and renewed fellowship and devotion. It is relatable to anyone who is familiar with the pains associated with life, and daily interactions with people who are sometimes not so kind. It keeps us reminded that there is Someone always present to help us pick up the pieces and go on, to love us, to comfort us and encourage us to be all that we can. He—Jesus—is the Lover to whom these songs are written, both the giver, and the object of utmost affection. The writer would also have us to understand that in spite of what the subtitle may suggest, this book, “A Book of Psalms...” is in no way to be seen as an attempt to substitute for THE book of Psalms. That simply cannot be. This is why seventy-five poems were written, which is exactly half of the Book of Psalms’ one hundred fifty—to suggest a desire to be “at least half the poet that David was” (said with a smile). It is written relative to the life, devotion and struggles of one who walks with God in this present day and time, and it is hopeful that the reader will discern this, and thus be enhanced in some way by it.

Gaian Angels, Book 1: The Weavers Awake by Iom Kosta Summary

We scour the heavens in search of visitors, but what if they’re already here amongst us—just waiting for their awakening? And what if…you’re one of them? This is the true story of a young visionary who predicted the overwhelming extent of the present climatic cataclysm, and this book is now proof since he published it in 2011, when we still believed the collapse of our civilisation was impossible. As early as 2002 he screamed that we had to change our ways, and went right up to the gates of death to find an antidote to his Apocalyptic visions. Of course, he was considered even crazier than the few alarmist scientists that were around at the time. To continue spreading the message and escape psychiatric internment, he eventually had the idea of recounting his extreme experiences mingled with an imaginary world. So here is the diary of a crazy “indigo being” whose error was to be right too soon—because today, only real madmen still deny the environmental tragedy in progress. Maybe it’s not too late to read it? But don’t worry; this is first and foremost an extraordinary journey towards hope, which may be summarised as follows: Arcadia leaves her idyllic Sylvan City to go to Earth and join the team of scouts charged with rescuing humanity, which is in danger of extinction. She comes to life as the author and observes our society from a different perspective. But this spiritual struggle across time and dimensions has unexpected repercussions. Who is really pulling the strings? Perhaps the Akashas: the angelic entities. What is their real intention? Will humanity survive? Maybe Consciousness will disappear...or never see the light of day? This ‘journey of investigation’ pushes the boundaries of reality to embrace a universal, ecological spirituality. Much more than a warning about the wasteland that the human race is preparing for its own future, the Gaian Angels Cycle is a new answer to the eternal question: what is the meaning of life? This first book can be read independently of the trilogy. Free eBook (direct download): take advantage of this special “trial” offer! Suitable for readers ages 16 and up. Awake at 3 a.m. by Suzannah Neufeld, MFT Summary

Pregnancy and new motherhood are often thought of as the most joyful, exciting, and blissful times in your life––but they can also be difficult and overwhelming. Yoga therapy offers practical mind-body tools (simple breath, movement, and mindfulness practices) to support you and provide solace, steadiness, and ease in difficult times. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are the number one “complication” of birth. They affect not just moms who suffer, but also the families who care about and rely on those moms. More than twice as many moms suffer from PMADs as gestational diabetes. Yet while robust support and treatment options exist for diabetes, moms who suffer emotionally are rarely acknowledged. Instead of receiving help, they are handed platitudes like “Sleep when the baby sleeps,” “Let go of stress because it’s bad for the baby,” or “Just enjoy every minute because it goes by so fast.” This can be a lonely and confusing place to be—suffering profound fear or sadness at a time when your friends and family expect you to be happy, radiant, and beatifically calm. As a therapist supporting women's mental health and those recovering from perinatal mood disorders and trauma since 2003, Suzannah Neufeld is keenly aware of the special needs of women during pregnancy and the first year of motherhood. Synthesizing modern psychotherapeutic research with practical yoga therapy, Neufeld offers a compassionate, acceptance-based approach that meets women (and their partners) wherever they are. Awake at 3 a.m. contains short, digestible chapters that are perfect for when you are feeling exhausted or overwhelmed. Neufeld skillfully dismantles the myths and internal beliefs that contribute to the suffering of new mothers, and tells her own story with honesty and humor. The yoga practices are designed to fit into your life as it is now––no flexibility, mat, special clothes, or 90-minute yoga class required.

Victor Hugo's Conversations with the Spirit World by John Chambers Summary

First English translation of Victor Hugo’s writings on his experiments in spiritualism • Reveals Hugo’s conversations with renowned discarnate entities such as Shakespeare, Plato, Galileo, and Jesus • Examines his contacts with aliens from the planets Mercury and Jupiter and the revelation that our entire universe is a quantum hologram • Discusses Hugo’s possible role as a grand master of the Priory of Sion During Victor Hugo’s exile on the Isle of Jersey, where he and his family and friends escaped the reign of Napoléon III, he conducted “table-tapping” séances, transcribing hundreds of channeled conversations with entities from the beyond. Among his discarnate visitors were Shakespeare, Plato, Hannibal, Rousseau, Galileo, Sir Walter Scott, and Jesus. According to the transcripts, Jesus, during his three visits, condemns Druidism, faults Christianity, and suggests a new religion with Hugo as its prophet. To the skeptic, some of the “conversations” may seem self-serving--at best, the subconscious wishes of the naïve participants. But author John Chambers places Hugo’s experiments firmly in the tradition of visionary literature and psychic exploration, aligning those experiences with the poetry of William Blake, the table-tapping experiences of the Fox sisters, and the channeled writings of the great modern-day Pulitzer Prize-winning poet James Merrill, whose spirits’ utterances uncannily resemble those of Hugo’s. Hugo’s transcriptions are the missing link between the early nineteenth century’s fascination with the kabbalistic Zohar, reincarnation, and the writings of the Illuminati and the rise of spiritualism and the societies for the study of psychic phenomena in the latter nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Landmarks by Rav Yehuda Leib Ashlag,Rav Baruch Shalom Ashlag Summary

After many years of learning about the spiritual meaning of the Jewish holidays according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, we thought it was judicious to bind together selected source excerpts on the topic from the greatest kabbalists throughout the ages, and primarily Rav Yehuda Leib HaLevi Ashlag (Baal HaSulam), and his firstborn son and successor, my teacher, Rav Baruch Shalom HaLevi Ashlag (RABASH). Landmarks was compiled so as to pave the way for all our friends, Kabbalah students from around the world, who aspire to be Israel—Yashar El [directly to the Creator], namely to aim themselves directly to the upper force, the power of bestowal and love. In Hebrew, the word Hag [holiday/festival] comes from the word Hug, meaning a circle. As the hands of a clock repeatedly return to the same numbers, we, too, experience spiritual states in a cyclical process. It begins with the exodus from Egypt, which we celebrate on Passover, symbolizing the beginning of the process, and ends with the final correction on the holiday of Purim. Each holiday and festival in the cycle of the year is like a landmark symbolizing an important stage in the development of the soul. Through these stages, we come to know ourselves, build ourselves, and experience the spiritual process over and over again. I am thankful to my devoted students who collected the excerpts herein for those already on the path, and for those who are yet to come, and I hope that reading them will help us advance the entire world toward redemption.

White Dove and Evenings Pass serves as a reminder that one of life’s greatest rewards is well worth the risk. S A Ruof is a former teacher and coach, who grew up and still lives in Ohio. The son of a railroader and teacher, and the youngest of four children, he earned his degree from Bowling Green State University. Having successfully completed twenty-four years of teaching, the author is excited with beginning a new career in casino management. Filled with candid observations and dry wit, S A Ruof uses vivid imagery and his own experiences to weave together a series of poems that will move anyone who has been versed in the lessons of love.

Untouchable by James M. Freeman Summary

Nearly 16% of India’s population – or over 100 million people – are untouchables. Most of them, despite decades of government efforts to improve their economic and social position, remain desperately poor, illiterate, subject to brutal discrimination and economic exploitation, and with no prospect for improvement of their condition. This is the autobiography, first published in 1979, of Muli, a 40-year-old untouchable of the Bauri caste, living in the Indian state of Orissa, as told to an American anthropologist. Muli is a narrator who combines rich descriptions of daily life with perceptive observations of his social surroundings. He describes with absorbing detail what it is like to be at the bottom of Indian life, and what happens when an untouchable attempts to break out of his accepted role.

Imdeduya Pdf/ePub eBook Author: Gunter Senft

Imdeduya by Gunter Senft Summary

This volume presents five variants of the Imdeduya myth: two versions of the actual myth, a short story, a song and John Kasaipwalova’s English poem “Sail the Midnight Sun”. This poem draws heavily on the Trobriand myth which introduces the protagonists Imdeduya and Yolina and reports on Yolina’s intention to marry the girl so famous for her beauty, on his long journey to Imdeduya’s village and on their tragic love story. The texts are compared with each other with a final focus on the clash between orality and scripturality. Contrary to Kasaipwalova’s fixed poetic text, the oral Imdeduya versions reveal the variability characteristic for oral tradition. This variability opens up questions about traditional stability and destabilization of oral literature, especially questions about the changing role of myth – and magic – in the Trobriand Islanders' society which gets more and more integrated into the by now “literal” nation of Papua New Guinea.
