An industrialist who spent the 1930s in business with Fascists, he became infamous as “America’s Number One Nazi.” When Hitler’s old lieutenants decide to get together a Fourth Reich, the Coopers are the first family they call. Summary:

Learn how a minor-league hockey team helped bring the NHL to Columbus, Ohio. The city of Columbus, Ohio, had always struggled to support any professional sports franchise. It’s a town where Ohio State University reigns supreme, and everything else is less important. That was until 1991, when the Columbus Chill, a minor-league hockey franchise, arrived. Using Veeckian marketing tactics and on-ice shenanigans, the Chill became the talk of the city and gained a religious local fan base. Based on the success of the Chill, from 1991–99, the city of Columbus was awarded with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2000, the city’s own NHL franchise. Chill Factor follows the wild ride through the eyes of team president and general manager David Paitson, from the early formation of the minor-league franchise through the decision to rattle the status quo by going to the edge and beyond with a marketing and promotional plan that was both edgy and controversial. The success of the Chill after their first season gave the organization the impetus to challenge local civic and business leaders to build a world-class arena and emerge from the shadow of OSU. There were setbacks and triumphs on and off the ice, and eventually the realization that the Columbus of today would not be possible without the aid of the Chill. Chill Factor takes readers into the front office and onto the rink, giving every angle of how a small town was able to get behind a working-class team that fought both on and off the ice. This thrilling account will appeal to those who remember the Chill’s reign, as well as those who enjoy seeing the underdog climb the ladder to sports supremacy. Summary:

Lust, jealousy and murder suffuse Brown's crisp thriller (after White Hot), set in the snowbound mountains of North Carolina. Lilly and Dutch Burton's marriage didn't withstand the loss of their three-year-old daughter, despite their attempt at a fresh start with the purchase of a vacation cabin in bucolic Cleary, N.C., where the novel opens on the divorced couple discussing its sale. Dutch is now Cleary's chief of police, and Lilly is a magazine editor in Atlanta. As she races back to the city to beat a blizzard, her car skids out, striking a hiker emerging from the woods. Turns out he's a man she knows: handsome freelance writer Ben Tierney, whom she met and flirted with the summer before. With no choice but to wait out the storm in the cabin with Ben, who is injured, Lilly calls Dutch, but he can't reach her via the now impassable mountain road. Meanwhile, Cleary is haunted by the case of five missing women--all now feared dead. With Lilly still stranded, Dutch goes ballistic when the FBI arrives in town with evidence that Tierney is the serial killer. The snowy suspense will cool off Brown's fans during the dog days of summer.

A story about the will? Doesn't sound particularly exciting or extraordinary. Maybe not. Depends on what a person goes through to discover their will. I see. You mean a will to live? Yes. And that's what American Loser is about? Primarily, yes. About discovering how powerful a person's will can be. That's certainly more interesting. Who might read such a story? Someone who's been in pain; who's questioned their own existence and considered maybe not being around tomorrow. Anyone else who might like this story? People amused by extreme behavior: sexual oddity and odysseys, drug use, and other absurdities that arise from passionate living.

Summary:

This book is the third volume of journal selections (2007-2011). Volume I included an Introduction and some biographical memories. As with the previous two volumes, the major events of life claim little diaristic attention, the overlooked or insignificant habitually capturing the author’s attention. Most journals or notebooks of eminent writers conclude with their relative youth, when they pick up the pen to create an imaginative retrospective journey, so there is little available of aging journal-keepers describing the downward journey. Those who maintained journals intime, or other forms of introspective writing, were rarely long lived, so there is little available of the aging journal-keeper describing the downward journey. Added to this is the paucity of proximal contemporaries who share or admit to the narrowing path, seeking instead the rejuvenations of youth. “I unavoidably focus on the early twilight of this narrowing journey, lead me where it shall.” Those interested in a more event-filled diary will find scant reportage in these pages.

Summary:

Fifty years ago a young farmer named John Fenton took over his family's run-down sheep property in Victoria. Named Lanark, the property was barren, windswept and environmentally all but dead. Fenton set about bringing the property back to life by bringing the environment back to life. He planted trees. He reinstated wetlands. He created wildlife reserves. Other farmers thought he had gone a little mad, but Fenton pressed on. As time went on, he came to realise he had stumbled on something extremely important for the Australian landscape as a whole: an integrated, sustainable farming system that was in tune with nature. Thus, he became an environmentalist almost by chance. Year after year, the tree-planting continued. By the time Fenton handed over the property to his son a few years ago, he had planted close to 100,000 trees. He had turned a desolate, degraded farm into an oasis teeming with bird life. In this book he tells the inspiring story of how his miracle was achieved.

Summary:

Malaysian youth, just like others their age around the world, bond during carefree times, only to arrive at the cusp of adulthood to be confronted with weightier matters such as death, marriage, and politics. In his posthumous collection of short stories, Feroz Faisal Dawson shares nine tales that highlight an eclectic group of characters poised to face emotional starts and stops as a generation comes of age together and takes different paths in life. As a juvenile vandal expresses political dissidence, a young man on a trip to the market for his mother stops to listen to a political rant that proves his indifference. After a tragic car accident, all who are left behind grieve in different ways as they face the grim reality inside a coffin. On New Year's Eve, relationships begin to show signs of strain as honor, pride, love, and hate surround a celebration. Ladder in the Water and Other Stories offers an unforgettable glimpse into a generation of Malaysian youth as they grow up and bravely face all of life's challenges-each in their own remarkable way.
