Lusting After Layla (Red Maple Falls, #9, Marshall Family #3) by Theresa Paolo Summary

Danger meets the small town of Red Maple Falls in the newest installment of the utterly romantic series. At twenty years old Layla Marshall devoted her life to raising her baby brother and sister after their mom died in a car accident. Now twelve years later and all grown up, her siblings have started their own lives, leaving Layla to combat loneliness in a much too quiet house. To fill the void, she finds herself spending time at the local bar with the sexy but mysterious tattooed owner who she has secretly harbored feelings for. Pub owner, Declan Dwyer, has been living with a secret for the last five years, deceiving the people of the small town of Red Maple Falls where he has chosen to hide out. He has kept to himself, but Layla Marshall has been on his radar since the first time he laid eyes on her in her purple scrubs. He’s maintained his distance though, afraid of a past that could mean death to him or anyone he cares for. When his past catches up to him, threatening to destroy all he has, Declan has to decide if he's going to flee again or stay and fight for a life and love he never imagined for himself.

Layla's Room by Sabrina Mahfouz Summary

Respect women, respect girls. Respect yourselves. Remember you are everyone who's gone before you and you are nobody that has ever been, so make it count, make it special, make a difference, make people listen, love the women who have loved you and watch us make the world move to a better place. For Layla, every day is a battleground. The pay gap, the thigh gap, over-sexed pop and selfies that are photoshopped – they're just part of the world she lives in. But that world is about to change. While breaking out of her bedroom – and with drama, comedy, poetry and music as her weapons – Layla breaks down and makes sense of the realities, difficulties and absurdities of teenage life in the UK today. Collected from a bespoke national survey, the voices of a thousand UK teens are brought to life in Layla. Their ambitions, concerns, role-models and regrets are woven together by award-winning Sabrina Mahfouz and theatre company Theatre Centre, offering a hard-hitting, yet hopeful, story. Layla's Room received its world premiere at Redbridge Drama Centre on 15 September 2016 in a production by Theatre Centre. It is ideal for students and young performers between 16 and 18 years old.

Layla by Nina de la Mer Summary

Introducing an unforgettable heroine for our times, Nina de la Mer's bold and unflinching novel captures the mood of an urban generation, seduced by celebrity and fuelled by drink, drugs and pornography. Arriving in London, Hayleigh finds work as lap dancer 'Layla', intent on earning enough cash to make a fresh start. She has the wit, the looks and skilful moves, exploiting men before they can exploit her. But over the course of a chaotic week she must make the biggest decision of her life and fight for the one thing she truly wants. This is a brilliant and moving novel, imaginatively powerful and authentically conceived. Thirty years after the resounding success of Jay McInerney's Bright Lights, Big City, and written in a similarly intense second-person narrative, Layla speaks for a new generation.

Layla in the Sky with Diamonds by Manbeena Bhullar Sandhu Summary

It has been twenty-four hours since Layla last had cocaine. The blonde American now on a flight to New Delhi with her one white child and one brown child is struggling to keep it together. As she departs the airplane, all she can focus on is how quickly she can hook up with her friend and drug baron Leonardo so he can provide her with her next fix. Layla, a flower child of the 1960s, has travelled around the world in search of a utopian land. Her life story begins with her wild rock and roll years in New York and continues on to tell of her hippie days in San Francisco and Goa where hippies of the world converged to partake in a bohemian lifestyle. Here, her heady ways were combined with a few unfortunate incidents and wrong choices, ultimately leading her to her spiritual awakening, but not before paying a dear price. This compelling story line weaves 1960s and 70s style hedonism, Indian culture, drugs, family, devastation, passion, spirituality, and endearing characters into an engaging tale. The author takes you on a journey of vivid impressions, bringing to life the spirit of a lost era.

Chronicles of Majnun Layla and Selected Poems by Qassim Haddad Summary

Chronicles of Majnun Layla and Selected Poems brings together in one volume Haddad’s seminal work and a considerable selection of poems from his oeuvre, stretching over forty years. The central poem, Chronicles of Majnun Layla, recasts the seventh-century myth into a contemporary, postmodern narrative that revels in the foibles of oral transmission, weaving a small side cast of characters into the fabric of the poem. Haddad portrays Layla as a daring woman aware of her own needs and desires and not afraid to articulate them. The author succeeds in reviving this classical work of Arabian love while liberating it from its puritanical dimension and tribal overtones. The selected poems reveal Haddad’s playful yet profound meditations. A powerful lyric poet, Haddad juxtaposes classical and modern symbols, and mixes the old with the new, the sensual with the sacred, and the common with the extraordinary. Ghazoul and Verlenden’s masterful translation remains faithful to the cultural and historical context in which the original poetry was produced while also reflecting the uniqueness of the poet’s style and his poetics.

Layla the Ladybug - Bullying by Darlington Johnson Summary

I was inspired to write this book, when I started to notice many kids not feeling good about themselves, because of negative peer pressure/bullying. Sometimes, kids can be mean to other kids. This is when we should focus on loving ourselves, and ignoring the negative, challenging situations that may come our way. Layla the ladybug is another example on how we should handle the negative remarks from our peers. Just “smile”, and let it go in one ear out the other.

Applications of Minimally Invasive Nanomedicine-Based Therapies in 3D in vitro Cancer Platforms by Layla Mohammad-Hadi,Marym Mohammad-Hadi Summary

Minimally invasive techniques such as Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Photochemical Internalisation (PCI) have for years been under investigation for the treatment of solid cancers. A significant number of the recent research studies have applied PDT and PCI to biological three-dimensional (3D) cancer platforms with many of the studies also involving the use of nanoparticles in order to enhance the efficacy of these light-based therapies. Interest in the employment of 3D cancer platforms has increased considerably due to the ability of the platforms to mimic in vivo models better than the conventional two-dimensional (2D) cultures. Some of the advantages of the 3D cancer systems over their 2D counterparts include improved interaction between cancer cells and the surrounding extracellular matrix (ECM) as well as restricted drug penetration which would allow optimization of treatments prior to undertaking of in vivo studies. The different chapters of this book will discuss photosensitizers and nanoparticles used in PDT and PCI in addition to the applications of these treatments in various 3D cancer models.
