Summary:

Immediately following Britain's declaration of war in 1939, Dion Fortune began a series of regular letters to members of her magical order, the Fraternity of the Inner Light, who were unable to hold meetings due to wartime travel restrictions. With enemy planes rumbling overhead, she organised a series of visualisations to formulate "seed ideas in the group mind of the race", archetypal visions to invoke angelic protection and uphold British morale under fire. "The war has to be fought and won on the physical plane," she wrote, "before physical manifestation can be given to the archetypal ideals. What was sown will grow and bear seed." As the war developed, this was consolidated with further work for the renewal of national and international accord. For the first time the Fraternity's doors were opened to anyone who wanted to join in and learn the previously secret methods of esoteric mind-working. With unswerving optimism she guided her fraternity through the dark days of the London Blitz, continuing her weekly letters even when the bombs came through her own roof. Introduction and commentary by Gareth Knight.

Summary:

As ecological degradation continues to threaten permanent and dramatic changes for life on our planet, the question of how we can protect our imperiled Earth has become more pressing than ever before. In this book, Daniel Scheid draws on Catholic social thought to construct what he calls the "cosmic common good," a new norm for interreligious ecological ethics. This ethical vision sees humans as an intimate part of the greater whole of the cosmos, emphasizes the simultaneous instrumental and intrinsic value of nature, and affirms the integral connection between religious practice and the pursuit of the common good. When ecologically reoriented, Catholic social thought can point the way toward several principles of the cosmic common good, such as the virtue of Earth solidarity and the promotion of Earth rights. These are rooted in the classical doctrines of creation in Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, and in Thomas Berry's interpretation of the evolutionary cosmic story. The cosmic common good can also be found in Hindu, Buddhist, and American Indian religious traditions. By placing a Catholic cosmic common good in dialogue with Hindu dharmic ecology, Buddhist interdependence, and American Indian balance with all our relations, Scheid constructs a theologically authentic moral framework that re-envisions humanity's role in the universe.

Summary:

Despite the attention that has already been paid to the theme of creation in the book of Sirach, scholarship has yet to provide a comprehensive analysis of Ben Sira's instruction regarding the cosmic order and its role in the divine bestowal of wisdom upon human beings. This book, which consists of two parts, fills a lacuna in scholarship by offering such an analysis. The first part of this study examines Ben Sira's three main treatments of the created world, thus providing a comprehensive description and synthesis of Ben Sira's doctrine concerning the created order of the cosmos. The second part of this work analyzes the place of human beings in general, and the Jewish people in particular, within the cosmic order. This second part includes an analysis of the role of the created order in Ben Sira's wisdom instruction in 1:1-10 and 24:1-34 as well as an elucidation of the way in which his treatments of various kinds of people—civic leaders, wives, doctors, manual laborers, scribes, and cultic personnel—are integral to Ben Sira's doctrine of creation. This study demonstrates that the created order is a fundamental category that Ben Sira relies upon in articulating his instructions about wisdom and wise behavior.

Summary:

When Dion Fortune wrote Aspects of Occultism, "occultism" was an umbrella word used to describe hidden lore, secret traditions, and arcane knowledge. Today, when the word "occult" is often confused for "cult," and all its negative aspects, Fortune's essays would be better referred to as "esoteric studies." In this book she discusses evocative magic, the sites of Druid worship, parallels between Christianity and the Qabalah, the astral plane, auras, spiritual healing, power cycles, and our relationship with the Higher Self. This revised edition includes a new introduction by Gareth Knight, an index, and an additional essay by Fortune-"The Myth of the Round Table." People familiar with Fortune's work will love this book!

Summary:

The metaphor of the cosmos as the Body of Christ offers an opportunity to escape the aporias of standard Body of Christ imagery, which has often proved anthropocentric, exclusivist, triumphalist and/or sexist in the analyses of classical theologies. The body motif in particular contains starting points for current body discourses of gender-sensitive and ecological theologies, especially in their mutual overlaps. This book offers a critical evaluation of the prospects and boundaries of an updated metaphor of the Body of Christ, especially in its cosmic dimension. The first part of the book addresses the complex tradition in which the universal dimension of cosmological Christologies is located, including the thinking of the Apostles Paul and John, Origen, Cusanus, Teilhard de Chardin, McFague, and Panikkar. In the second part of the book, representatives of various innovative concepts will contribute to the anthology. This is a wide-ranging study of the implications of a new cosmic Body of Christ. As such, it will be of interest to academics working in Religion and Gender, Religion and the Environment, Theology and Christology.

Everyone has the ability to access the invisible planes of existence- a whole kingdom of mind and spirit- which cannot be perceived with the physical senses. Fortune provides invaluable guidance to anyone intent on increasing their inner awareness. She declares, "Esoteric tradition admits of no exclusiveness; it is the very essence of its spirit that it blasphemes no God that has been hallowed by our devotion. It sees all religions as the expressions of our spirit rather than the personal revelation of a jealous God to His chosen people. It suffers from neither superstitious awe nor bigoted fear."

Summary:

This handbook helps the living assist the dying at the time of death. It teaches that the living must, first and foremost, understand the process that the soul goes through before they can help the spirit in its transition. Dion Fortune's Book of the Dead is a clear, concise, illuminating guide that explains the stages in the natural process of dying that each and every soul passes through from this world to the next. Fortune shows how traditional customs connected with the passing of a soul have their roots in psychic fact. For example, we place candles and fresh flowers in the death chamber as soon as the soul has departed because they provide sufficient etheric emanations to meet the needs of the "etheric double," assisting in the soul's disentanglement from the physical. Without the flowers and candles, the etheric body will draw its vitality from any available source, including grievers. Loved ones in particular are susceptible to depletion and can be drained dry in their ignorance. The living, Fortune writes, have two tasks to perform: "We must see to it that dust returns as swiftly and harmoniously as possible, giving rise to none of the happenings which may be termed the pathologies of death," and "we ought to follow up the departing soul with the right kind of telepathic communication until it is safely established on the Other Side."

Summary:

This is the first time in earthly history that the difference between the soul, "quantum consciousness" and the mind, "intellect" is described. The book clarifies in a very clear way, the soul's opponent the mind, which has made us people gradually involve in matter on this planet. We have reached the bottom of involution, entanglement in all mental, emotional, physical, intellectual and material problems that we could possibly confront in an involution. Now when we have gathered all these experiences and have had enough, we are looking for an escape route out of all this chaos. The world faces enormous problems that are linked to all the individuals on this planet. An increased energy outflow from the Sun triggers all human problems that now give their expressions in the exterior. Chaos prevails now on all levels between countries, within countries, in society, in the family, in nature and within each individual. People have always been looking for the solution to these problems in the exterior and that has constantly created yet more and more serious problems. The solution is within ourselves and has always been there. In this time of chaos the World Teacher, Future Visionary - Dr. Sandor A. Markus explains what obstacles we must overcome if we are to be included in the upcoming civilization, the fifth in order, which is slowly being built behind the scenes. But first, a worldwide chaos must be unleashed that triggers all people's inside characteristics, so that we become aware of that this is the root cause of all our problems, of all the chaos. In connection to this, all the people in the world, consciously or unconsciously, must choose one of the following ways - either the path of the soul, the light, which means a higher quality multi-dimensional quantum consciousness - free from all problems of today, or the path of the mind, the way of darkness, which will lead to continued chaos, misery, internal problems, poorer health, etc. This category of people will be removed from the planet earth and continue their human development on other planets with situations that are consistent with their own inherent qualities. Dr. Sandor A. Markus emphasizes that no one can escape his own destiny. We are all governed by the law of the cosmos, i.e. what we sow, we must also reap. Dr. Sandor A. Markus says that when the various lower quality human henchmen have eliminated a large part of humanity, the Earth will indeed be a clear radiant more subtle planet where people develop cosmically back to the Father's house, from where we once descended. The book includes 1: The World Doctrine, which is the cosmic law we must follow. 2: The Yoga of Wisdom, including the mineral kingdom, plant kingdom, animal kingdom and the human kingdom 3: Quantum Psychology, comprising the soul's, the spirit's opponents.

Summary:

At the end of the twentieth century we began to understand that the earth is vulnerable, that it is like a tiny garden in space, under threat on all sides. Jesus and the Cosmos is an attempt to think theologically about the ecological crisis we face in the light of the great Christian tradition. Our theological tradition has been shaped within the worldview of a static universe. By contrast, we are told today that the universe began with a cosmic explosion called the Big Bang, that we live in an expanding universe with galaxies rushing away from us at an enormous rate, that we human beings are part of an evolutionary movement on the earth, and that we are intimately linked with the health of delicately balanced life-systems on our planet. Not only has modern science given this age a new cosmology, but contemporary historical studies have provided us with a new approach to the historical Jesus. Critical biblical study has allowed us to know far more about the Jesus who brought joy and liberation into people's lives. In Jesus and the Cosmos, Denis Edwards tells the story of the cosmos, the story of Jesus of Nazareth, and shows their connections. Ultimately, he will assert "Jesus of Nazareth, risen from the dead, IS the dynamic power at the heart of the cosmic process."

The only true and unedited telling of the life of Christ—his life and times, in historical context, but not lacking the psychology behind his physical being and spirit. Unlike other books seeking to strip Jesus' story to reveal only the human being, Romano Guardini's The Lord gives the complete story of Jesus Christ—as man, Holy Ghost, and Creator. Pope Benedict XVI lauds Guardini's work as providing a full understanding of the Son of God, away from the prejudice that rationality engenders. Put long-held myths aside and discover the entire truth about God's only begotten Son.

Summary:

The modern materialist approach to life has conspicuously failed to explain such central mind-related features of our world as consciousness, intentionality, meaning, and value. This failure to account for something so integral to nature as mind, argues philosopher Thomas Nagel, is a major problem, threatening to unravel the entire naturalistic world picture, extending to biology, evolutionary theory, and cosmology. Since minds are features of biological systems that have developed through evolution, the standard materialist version of evolutionary biology is fundamentally incomplete. And the cosmological history that led to the origin of life and the coming into existence of the conditions for evolution cannot be a merely materialist history, either. An adequate conception of nature would have to explain the appearance in the universe of materially irreducible conscious minds, as such. Nagel's skepticism is not based on religious belief or on a belief in any definite alternative. InMind and Cosmos, he does suggest that if the materialist account is wrong, then principles of a different kind may also be at work in the history of nature, principles of the growth of order that are in their logical form teleological rather than mechanistic. In spite of the great achievements of the physical sciences, reductive materialism is a world view ripe for displacement. Nagel shows that to recognize its limits is the first step in looking for alternatives, or at least in being open to their possibility.
