The Circle of Fire by Don Miguel Ruiz,Janet Mills Summary

In The Circle of Fire (formerly published as Prayers: A Communion With Our Creator) Ruiz inspires us to enter into a new and loving relationship with ourselves, with our fellow humans, and with all of creation. Through a selection of beautiful essays, prayers, and guided meditations, Ruiz prepares our minds for a new way of seeing life, and opens our hearts to find our way back to our birthright: heaven on earth. The result is a life lived in joy, harmony, and contentment. In my teachings, "The Circle of Fire" ceremony celebrates the most important day of our lives: the day when we merge with the fire of our spirit, and return to our own divinity. This is the day when we recover the awareness of what we really are, and make the choice to live in communion with that force of creation we call "Life" or "God." From that day forward, we live with unconditional love in our hearts for ourselves, for life, for everything in creation. This book, first published in 2001 as "Prayers: A Communion with Our Creator," will remind you of what you really are. It has always been my favorite book, and now in honor of my favorite prayer, it has been appropriately renamed "The Circle of Fire." -- don Miguel Ruiz

The Three Questions by Don Miguel Ruiz,Barbara Emrys Summary

The beloved spiritual teacher builds on the message of his enduring New York Times and international bestseller The Four Agreements with this profound guide that takes us deeper into the tradition of Toltec wisdom, helping us find and use the hidden power within us to achieve our fullest lives. In The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz introduced seekers on the path to enlightenment to the tenets of Mesoamerican spiritual culture—the ancient Toltec. Now, he takes us deeper into Native American practice, and asks us to consider essential questions that drive our lives and govern our spiritual power. Three eternal questions can help us into our power and use it judiciously: Who am I? What is real? How do I express love? At each stage in our lives, we must ask these simple yet deeply profound questions. Finding the answers will open the door to the next stage in our development, and eventually lead us to our complete, truest selves. But as Don Miguel Ruiz makes clear, we suffer if we do not ask these questions—or if we fail to pay attention to their answers—because we either never act on our power or use it destructively. Only when power is anchored in our identity and in reality will it be able to be in synch with the universe—and be of true benefit to ourselves and to others. The three questions provide a practical framework that allows readers to engage with Ruiz’s transformative message and act as a vehicle for overcoming fear and anxiety and discovering peace of mind. An essential guide for all travelers pursuing self-knowledge, understanding, and acceptance, The Three Questions is the next step in our unique spiritual metamorphosis.

For the first time ever, the Toltec wisdom from the Ruiz family is bound together in a book of Daily Meditations. Readers are invited on a six-month journey of daily lessons with don Miguel Ruiz Jr. that are designed to inspire, nourish, and enlighten adherents as they travel along the Toltec path. In the introduction to the book, don Miguel Ruiz Jr. reminds readers that progress on the Toltec path is not measured by the acquisition of things, status, or even ideas, but rather the complete and total realization that everything in the world is perfect, exactly the way it is at this moment. “Love is accepting ourselves just the way we are, with all of our flaws and our ever-changing belief system. You are nothing else but who you are. You are not the person you were a year ago. You are not the person you will be in a year. You aren't even the person you think you are. You simply are, and that must be enough.” —don Miguel Ruiz Jr. This book will have special appeal to those already familiar with his father’s books The Four Agreements, The Mastery of Love, and The Fifth Agreement, as well as don Miguel Ruiz Jr.’s own book, The Five Levels of Attachment. It also makes a wonderful gift.

You Are the Universe by Deepak Chopra, M.D.,Menas C. Kafatos, Ph.D. Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Deepak Chopra joins forces with leading physicist Menas Kafatos to explore some of the most important and baffling questions about our place in the world. "A riveting and absolutely fascinating adventure that will blow your mind wide open!" —Dr. Rudolph E. Tanzi What happens when modern science reaches a crucial turning point that challenges everything we know about reality? In this brilliant, timely, and practical work, Chopra and Kafatos tell us that we've reached just such a point. In the coming era, the universe will be completely redefined as a "human universe" radically unlike the cold, empty void where human life is barely a speck in the cosmos. You Are the Universe literally means what it says--each of us is a co-creator of reality extending to the vastest reaches of time and space. This seemingly impossible proposition follows from the current state of science, where outside the public eye, some key mysteries cannot be solved, even though they are the very issues that define reality itself: • What Came Before the Big Bang? • Why Does the Universe Fit Together So Perfectly? • Where Did Time Come From? • What Is the Universe Made Of? • Is the Quantum World Linked to Everyday Life? • Do We Live in a Conscious Universe? • How Did Life First Begin? “The shift into a new paradigm is happening,” the authors write. “The answers offered in this book are not our invention or eccentric flights of fancy. All of us live in a participatory universe. Once you decide that you want to participate fully with mind, body, and soul, the paradigm shift becomes personal. The reality you inhabit will be yours either to embrace or to change.” What these two great minds offer is a bold, new understanding of who we are and how we can transform the world for the better while reaching our greatest potential.

Wisdom of the Shamans by don Jose Ruiz Summary

For generation after generation, Toltec shamans have passed down their wisdom through teaching stories. The purpose of these stories is to implant a seed of knowledge in the mind of the listener, where it can ultimately sprout and blossom into a new and better way of life. In The Wisdom of the Shamans: What the Ancient Masters Can Teach Us About Love and Life, Toltec shaman and master storyteller don Jose Ruiz shares some of the most popular stories from his family's oral tradition and offers corresponding lessons that illustrate the larger ideas within each story. Ruiz begins by explaining that contrary to the stereotypical image of "witch doctor," the ancient shamans were men and women who fulfilled several roles within their communities: philosopher, spiritual guide, medical doctor, psychologist, and friend. According to Ruiz, their teachings are not primitive or reserved for a chosen few initiates but are instead a powerful series of lessons on love and life that are available to us all. To that aim, he has included exercises, meditations, and shamanic rituals to help you experience the personal transformation these stories offer. The shamans taught that the truth you seek is inside of you. Let these stories, lessons, and tools be your guide to finding the innate wisdom that lives within.

Becoming a Professional Life Coach: Lessons from the Institute of Life Coach Training by Diane S. Menendez,Patrick Williams Summary

Personal and professional coaching, which has emerged as a powerful career in the last several years, has shifted the paradigm of how people who seek help with life transitions find a "helper" to partner with them in designing their desired future. No matter what kind of sub-specialty a coach might have, life coaching is the basic operating system: a whole-person, client-centered approach. Here, Pat Williams, who has been a leader in the life coaching movement, has co-authored another essential book for therapists working as coaches. What on Earth Are We Doing Here? by Elaine A. Piha Summary

What on Earth Are We Doing Here?: Exploring the Case for Human Suffering by Elaine A. Piha, C.C., M.A. Book Description Have you ever watched the evening news and wondered why there is so much pain and destruction in our world? Have you ever wondered why so many bad things happen to seemingly good people, perhaps yourself? So often, when something bad happens, it appears to be nothing more than meaningless suffering. But, what if your challenging experiences were actually loaded with hidden meaning, meaning that you yourself selected before you were even conceived? Could it be that you are the sole entity responsible for your circumstances, that no other source is to blame for your current state of affairs? We plan our life challenges before birth in a process called pre-birth planning, not for the mere principle of enduring pain, but for the personal growth that it affords our soul. Thus, human suffering has the noble purpose of teaching compassion as we each travel our own spiritual path. Giving meaning to our suffering is vital to our growth as a whole. Understanding the adversity in our lives leads to personal acceptance, freedom and fulfillment. Feelings of fear, anger and resentment are replaced with the motivation to extract as much meaning as possible from each earthly experience. This shift removes us from the victim role and places us in the driver's seat of our own lives.

This recovery program begins by validating your experiences and breaking through any denial you may be experiencing by examining all the ways you could be traumatized at work. Understand workplace trauma. Armed with a deeper understanding of what trauma is, how it develops, and how you react to trauma, you will be able to identify the support you’ll need to heal and recover. Build your recovery team and develop your action plan. Useful tools and techniques will help you connect with and build your team of support professionals and advocates. Once you begin working with your team, you’ll start the recovery process by acquiring a set of skills and techniques to help you weather the storm and begin healing. Grieve, mourn, and let go. Recovery will take you on a journey of grieving, mourning, and letting go, which will transport you to a new sense of calm and acceptance. Finally, I’ll share helpful ways to maintain your recovery, manage setbacks with compassion, and track your progress so you can proactively navigate the inevitably choppy waters as you continue your healthy and productive recovery. Adapt and adjust to the impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The COVID-19 global Pandemic has left a lasting impact on all our lives. This section will review the Pandemic’s mental health, physical health, and social implications with helpful tools and techniques to help you manage the trauma and stress the Pandemic brings. In addition, gems of wisdom and learnings within the research literature will help you navigate the Pandemic and Post-Pandemic worlds effectively. Learn interactively with workbook exercises. Each exercise in the workbook walks you through a process of self-reflection and self-discovery to help you understand and make sense of your situation. First Responder Careers Expose Individuals to Higher Risks of Developing Trauma Some careers include a higher likelihood of experiencing traumatic events that can lead to the development of PTSD. Serving in the military is a high-risk factor for developing PTSD. However, combat veterans develop PTSD at different rates depending on the severity and length of exposure to traumatic experiences. There are also high incidences of reported sexual harassment and sexual abuse in the military. As a result, the rates of PTSD are relatively high compared to the overall prevalence in the general population. Not only can law enforcement officers experience direct threats and stressful conditions, but they also regularly witness the devastating effects of assaults, robberies, kidnappings, and violent events. However, individuals in this profession have lower-than-expected rates of PTSD, surprisingly. An estimated 20 percent overall may result from having access to counseling and rigorous pre-employment screenings. EMTs and paramedics are routinely exposed to life-threatening incidents and have more health problems than individuals in other occupations. PTSD rates in this group are as high as 20 percent. PTSD prevalence in this profession is comparable to law enforcement. Firefighters conduct paramedic activities and are the first responders to natural disasters. Firefighting is a dangerous profession that exposes workers to stressful conditions and traumatic events, ranging from threats to their safety and experiencing the devastating effects of catastrophes. As a result, the prevalence of PTSD in this group can be as high as 20 percent. Volunteer firefighters may have even higher rates because they don’t have access to the same level of support as career firefighters. Healthcare workers, especially those working in emergency rooms and intensive care units, are also at higher risk. For example, nurses working in critical care units are more likely to develop PTSD than nurses in other groups. In addition, while senior-level nurses report fewer PTSD symptoms than junior ones, they report higher rates of burnout. Finally, healthcare workers exposed to patients that have experienced violence, such as an assault victim, are more likely to develop PTSD than surgeons who treat assault victims. Rescue workers, medical workers, and volunteers who act as first responders during disasters witness the aftermath of horrific events and can even become involved in severe traumatic events. The prevalence of PTSD in these individuals has been estimated to be between 15 and 30 percent. Journalists who work as war correspondents are at higher risk of being injured, killed, or kidnapped. Their lifetime prevalence of PTSD, which can be as high as 30 percent, reflects their lack of access to support and PTSD treatment options. Transit and train operators are frequently exposed to physical threats and witness suicide incidents such as “person under train” events. Exposure to these traumatic and threatening circumstances can be a daily or weekly occurrence. Bus drivers are more prone to PTSD because they have more direct contact with the general public than train drivers locked in secure train cabs. In these high-risk professions, the incidence of trauma declines when policies are in place to debrief victims, give victims immediate access to counseling, and screen for individuals at high risk of having adverse reactions to traumatic conditions.
